To support awareness for pediatric cancer, Misty Lourenco, 39, a cancer survivor herself, and Warwick PAL teamed up together for a Go Gold event Sept. 20th.
Last year Lourenco was battling osteosarcoma, which start in the bones causing them to be both fragile and painful and inevitably lost one of her legs to the disease.
Lourenco though believes everything happens for a reason and is now an advocate for pediatric cancer.
The Go Gold event benefited The Tomorrow Fund and had football players dressed in golden socks, cheerleaders, donning golden hair bows all to support pediatric cancer.
“We have survivors here, we have parents who have lost a child to cancer, but the hardest part is realizing those who can’t be here who lost the battle,” Lourenco said. “It’s great to see so many people going gold today to support those kids suffering from cancer, but it is emotional for me. I want to be able to walk into the tomorrow fund and feel good about the check I’m giving them.”
Lourenco hopes the Go Gold event becomes an annual event.
