Children’s book swap set for Thursday at Warwick Mall

Posted

This Thursday the importance of promoting literacy through the power of books will be on full display at Warwick Mall when Bank Rhode Island (BankRI) and Books Are Wings team-up to host a book drive and book swap. The event, which will be held at the Mall’s center court from noon to 2 p.m., is part of the Bank’s month-long book drive during April.

Throughout the event, members of the community are encouraged to bring their children and donate new and gently-used children’s books. Kids will also be treated to storytelling and literacy-based crafts while having an opportunity to select a book to bring home.

At the end of the book drive and swap, Books Are Wings, a local non-profit that puts free books in the hands of children, will distribute the donated books to kids in some of the state’s neediest communities.

Those unable to attend the Warwick Mall event may still contribute to BankRI’s book drive by visiting any of the Bank’s 18 branch locations through April 30.

Each branch currently houses book collection bins conveniently placed in their lobby and a goal has been set to collect 2,000 books.
