Clayton D. Lanphear, Jr., 91, formerly of Warwick and Cranston passed away on July 22 at the Coventry Center. He was the husband of the late Margery V. (Flick) Lanphear.

Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Clayton D. Lanphear and Olive W. (Spooner) Lanphear. Mr. Lanphear was the proprietor of Ray’s Diner in Providence and a cook for the State of Rhode Island for many years. He was a Past Commodore of the Edgewood Yacht Club and a member of the Masons, belonging to Harmony Lodge #9 and the Rhode Island Shriners. He was a graduate of Aldrich High School, Warwick where he was class president. Mr. Lanphear was a United States Army Air Corps veteran serving in Europe during World War II.

He is survived by four loving sons: Dr. Clayton Lanphear & his wife, Leslie of Chepachet; Malcolm G. Lanphear, whose wife was the late Julia, of Warwick; Dr. Kevin Lanphear & his wife, Lyndi of Newburyport, Massachusetts and Associate Justice Jeffrey Lanphear & his wife, Kathleen of Cranston. He was the brother of Elizabeth Cloxton of Wakefield, RI. He was the cherished grandfather of Staci, Erin, Christopher, Alec, Caitlin, David, Jennifer, Hope and Kate Lanphear; and he leaves five great-grandchildren.

His funeral and burial will be private.
