Company donates Celtics, Bruins tickets to support town’s schools

Some lucky Johnston Public School students will soon be sitting inside TD Garden to watch the Boston Celtics and Boston Bruins.

Mayor Joseph Polisena made that announcement Monday morning in Town Hall’s Executive Chambers after he received tickets for the Dec. 9 Celtics game against the Toronto Raptors and Dec. 9 Bruins contest against the Florida Panthers.

The tickets were courtesy of Schnitzer Steel’s Prolerized New England office based in Warwick.

Andy Naporano, Schnitzer Steel’s Northeast regional director, along with Wallace B. Gernt Jr., president of The Bradford Group that represents Schnitzer in its public affairs, public relations, and issues management, were also on hand for the presentation.

Polisena immediately passed the tickets along to Superintendent of Schools Dr. Bernard DiLullo and announced that he wanted them used for a raffle that will benefit programs at Johnston schools.

In all, there are eight tickets – four each for the Dec. 5 and Dec. 9 games – and Naporano told Polisena they are club seats.

“Schnitzer Steel has always been a great corporate citizen,” Polisena said of the parent company that owns and operates Pick-n-Pull in the Johnston Industrial Complex. “We’ve always had a great relationship with Schnitzer Steel and we again thank them for their continued community support.”

“We thank Mayor Polisena for this kindness and opportunity to help the public schools in Johnston,” Naporano said.

“We’re here to help. We want to be part of this great community,” Gernt added.

DiLullo, who was thrilled when Polisena called and told him he was passing the tickets along to the school department and suggested he coordinate the upcoming raffle, offered: “It was very generous of Mayor Polisena to donate the ticket from Schnitzer to Johnston Public Schools. He always considers the youth of the town and provides them with the best possible services.”

DiLullo said he’ll be working on a plan for the raffle, and details will be announced once finalized.
