Defeat ALS walk is Sunday at Confreda Sports Complex

Posted

The Rhode Island Chapter of the Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) Association will hold its annual Walk to Defeat ALS on Sunday, Sept. 22 at Warwick’s Confreda Sports Complex.

ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a neuro-muscular disease that usually affects only about 60 Rhode Islanders at any one time. But the disease is fatal, as it attacks one group of nerves and muscles after another. There is at present no cure or effective treatment.

The Rhode Island Chapter, with headquarters in Warwick, sponsors a multi-disciplinary clinic at Rhode Island Hospital for area patients, support groups for patients and families, and many other patient care services. In addition, the Chapter contributes significantly toward research directed at obtaining new treatments for this devastating disease.

Registration for the event starts at 10 a.m., with the walk start time at 11.

For more information, call the RI Chapter office at 732-1609 or log onto walkri.com.
