As I lie in the hospital recuperating from open heart surgery, staring at tasteless globs of oatmeal and Jell-O and listening to the dietician tell me about restrictions on salt, fried and Chinese food, I dream not of sugarplums dancing in my head but of my favorite dining experiences.
A dozen immediately come to mind…and I can’t wait to experience them once again.
Twin Oaks’ baked stuffed shrimp, served with mashed potatoes in the middle and accompanied by a salad with Roquefort.
Governor Francis’ Meatloaf, mashed potatoes with lots of gravy, and their special carrots and turnips, preceded by a cup of Seafood chowder.
Lasagna at Angelo’s.
Crispy pork and Nim Chow at Lemongrass.
Tommy’s Trio: lobster roll, clamcakes and chowder, under an umbrella on Warwick Ave.
Breakfast at Spoonem’s, where I can never decide between their Best in Rhode Island corned beef hash or their sliced-off-the-bone ham.
Meatballs from Mirabella’s.
Sticky buns from Little Falls.
Fish and chips from Vivaldi’s.
A huge sundae with doughboys from Iggy’s.
A combination gyro/falafel from East Side Pockets.
Fellini’s Pizza.
