House District 22

Jennifer Siciliano

Age: 46

Education:  University of Massachusetts, Amherst, MA, Master of Regional Planning University of Connecticut, Storrs, CT, Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Philosophy

Occupation: Urban Planner

I believe the major issues for the district is to get elected officials in the State House that listen to the people! To many our State Representatives are doing things for themselves or their friends. Look at Gallison and Carnevale for instance.

My district overwhelmingly voted for Bernie Sanders in the Presidential Primary. I think my district wants a candidate that is a progressive thinker. If it is what they want, they should vote for me.

I’m running for State Representative because, if I’m being quite honest, what goes on in Rhode Island politics disgusts me.  Too many of our politicians are helping their friends instead of helping us.  I’ve been living here in Warwick for a while, and I’ve seen the same problems we’ve all seen.  Our economy is struggling, we are not doing enough to help the environment, and even if our children do get through our schools, it’s becoming harder and harder to afford college.  When I realized no one else was going to step up, I had to do something.  The current Representative only knows how to do things the way they’ve always been done.  I want change.  And that’s why I’m running.

I believe in a government that works for everyone not just the well off and the well connected. I believe in schools that teach our children skills and not just how to take a test. I believe in a State House that is open and accountable. Mostly though I believe that legislators should work to make our lives better and not their own.

Two years ago, I pledged that I would put the public’s interest first.  Since then, I fought for ethics reform, lowered taxes, opposed new tolls, and passed laws to protect our children and pets.

If the people reelect me, I will continue to fight for stronger ethics in Rhode Island.  Since I was elected, I cosponsored a bill each year restoring the authority of the Ethics Commission over the General Assembly.  I’m proud to say that we passed a bill restoring that authority.  However, the battle to improve ethics is not over.  By fighting for stronger ethics in our state, we will restore the confidence of the people in Rhode Island, and open the state to businesses from outside of Rhode Island.

I believe we need to make sure Rhode Island is economically competitive for businesses and affordable for all Rhode Islanders to live and work.  By improving our ethical climate and decreasing the regulatory burden on our small businesses, we can move Rhode Island forward.
