Dog shot in domestic disturbance

A call about a domestic disturbance in Oakland Beach ended with a dog being shot by a Warwick police officer.

According to the report, Officer Daniel O’Connell was questioning a 19-year-old Peuquot Avenue man when the exchange got heated. A dog, described as a pit bull, became increasingly agitated before it broke loose and attacked the officer’s leg. O’Connell fired several shots at the dog, at least one of which hit the animal. O’Connell was treated for two bite wounds on his leg and the dog was taken to the Warwick Animal Hospital to be treated for an injury described as non-life-threatening.

Sean Sanita, of 397 Pequot Ave., was charged with disorderly conduct. The dog will be held by the city pending a hearing to determine if it should be considered vicious and a threat to the community.

According to court records, Sanita is on probation for reckless driving, driving on a suspended license and resisting arrest after being charged by the Rhode Island State Police in June of this year.
