To the Editor:
On behalf of Chief Edmund B. Armstrong and the Office of Fire Prevention, I would like to thank all of those who made our annual Fire Safety Day such a success.
With seasonal weather, nearly 750 people turned out at fire headquarters in Apponaug for a free, family-friendly event. From the Jaws of Life/heavy duty rescue, to appearances by the Warwick Fire Department Dive Rescue Team, to tours of the fire safety trailer, the day provided a great opportunity to help teach our children how to stay safe.
There were raffles for parents and children to win a number of terrific prizes. Local businesses generously donated many of the items, and our sincere thanks to these establishments for their support of our event: Wal-Mart (Post Road and Bald Hill Road locations); Papa Gino’s; Toys “R” Us; Subway; and NY Life Insurance Company. A big thank you to Wal-Mart (Post Road and Bald Hill Road locations) and Papa Gino’s for providing free pizza and refreshments.
Many thanks to the Administration’s Office Staff, Warwick Fire Department Recruit Class 14-1, and members of Local 2748, especially “B” Platoon, who provided support throughout the day’s activities.
Thank you to Colonel Stephen McCartney for providing the support of the Police Explorers, Traffic Unit and Officer’s Friendly and McGruff.
We couldn’t have held this event without the generosity of our many wonderful donors and volunteers. Once again, thank you for all of your dedication and support that helped make Fire Safety Day a great success.
Peter Marietti
Fire Marshal
