Kent Hospital’s Division of Cardiology announced a new Advanced Valvular Heart Disease Clinic, which will provide clinical expertise necessary for the optimal management of cardiac valvular disease.

The Advanced Valvular Heart Disease Clinic at Kent will be directed by Alice Y. Kim, MD, FACC, a new member of the Brigham and Women’s Cardiovascular Associates at Kent. Dr. Kim is a board certified physician who specializes in consultative and noninvasive cardiology, including cardiovascular medicine; transthoracic, transesophogeal and stress echocardiography; nuclear cardiology; and vascular interpretation. Dr. Kim is also an attending physician in the departments of cardiology at both Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island and Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

“We are very excited about the addition of an advanced valvular heart disease clinic at Kent Hospital and welcome Dr. Kim as we further expand advanced cardiac services locally,” Sandra L. Coletta, COO of Care New England, president and CEO of Kent Hospital, said in a statement. “Patients will now be given the opportunity to seek evaluation, diagnosis and treatment from a team of leading heart disease specialists, offering a range of advanced procedures close to home.”

“The addition of a new Advanced Valvular Heart Disease Clinic to the Division of Cardiology at Kent Hospital is a huge gain for the patients of the community who have valvular heart disease and are in need of high quality care, which includes access to the best in medical technology, clinical trials and complex treatment plans,” said Chester Hedgepeth, MD, PhD, executive chief of cardiology at Kent Hospital. “When needed, a seamless and collaborative effort with a multidisciplinary team at Brigham and Women’s Hospital of Boston can provide intervention to patients with advanced valvular or structural heart disease.”

The Advanced Valvular Heart Disease Clinic at Kent Hospital will offer services such as: Comprehensive evaluation, diagnosis and treatment planning for patients who may be candidates for advanced valve intervention; access to expertise with interventional cardiologists and cardiac surgeons at the advanced valvular and structural heart disease clinic at Brigham and Women’s Hospital; appropriate multi-modality imaging, including echocardiography, cardiac catheterization and computer tomography; and access to national research protocols for advanced valve disease.
