The Rhode Island State Council of Churches will host an ecumenical worship service to lift up and support the Brothers of New Life Church at the RI Department of Corrections Medium Security Prison. The service will be from 4 to 6 p.m. at Woodridge United Church of Christ, 546 Budlong Road in Cranston, on Oct. 30.

This intergenerational contemporary Christian worship service will include youth-led music, music from the Brothers of New Life Church Men’s Choir, testimony from former inmates, and a message from the chaplain.

There is no charge for this event but donations will be accepted to support this ministry purchase instruments, Bibles and other expenses related to their on-going ministry. Following the service, there will also be an opportunity to write letters of encouragement to the men and support legislation for greater justice for incarcerated men and women in Rhode Island. The legislation is a package of six bills that will address issues in the state’s criminal justice system with the goals of reducing recidivism, reforming probation, and lowering corrections costs.

This event is sponsored by the RI State Council of Churches, a state wide Christian organization that gathers denominations, congregations, organizations, faith leaders, and individuals to serve as a catalyst for ecumenical and interfaith dialogue and advocates for peace and social justice. The Brothers of New Life Church is a ministry of the Council and criminal justice reform is a top legislative priority.
