Seniors from Cornerstone Adult Day Services will have their artwork on display at the Warwick Museum of Art beginning at the end of this month and through the month of July.

Cornerstone Adult Day Services, a member of Saint Elizabeth Community, has five centers throughout Rhode Island and provides services to seniors and adults living with disabilities.

Through a yearlong partnership with the Warwick Museum of Art and direction of former program director Simone Spruce-Torres, participants have created art that culminates in the collection to be on exhibit at the museum.

The collection, titled “Embracing Cultures” has over 50 pieces of art created to reflect the art from cultures around the world, such as West African djembe drums, American folk art quilts, Japanese fans and Portuguese roosters.

The Cornerstone participants were able to explore the art traditions of various countries and cultures before creating a piece.

In a press release, Cornerstone participant, Lyse, expressed an enthusiasm shared by those involved in the collaboration. “I looked forward to the class each week. I’ve never done anything like this in my life, and I love it!”

The exhibit “Embracing Cultures” runs in the Warwick Museum of Art from June 30 to July 24. On July 8, from 6 to 8 p.m. the museum will host a reception for the collection, free to the public. Those participants from Apponaug’s Cornerstone Day Center will be performing an original skit titled “Bring your own Improv” written by Daniel Lee White.
