Emery R. Parks, age 90, of Warwick, passed peacefully at the Rhode Island Veteran’s Home in Bristol on January 1, 2014. He was the beloved husband of the late Rita Grace (Beaufort) Parks.

Born in Warwick on August 6, 1923, a son of the late Edgar and Margaret (Howard) Parks, he was a life-long Warwick resident. He was a United States Navy veteran of World War II. Emery Parks was a heavy equipment operator for over 50 years, forging the interstate highways and connecting bridges throughout New England. He was a proud retired member of Local # 57. He was a communicant of St. William Parish in Warwick.

He is survived by his children, Gary Parks and his wife, Sharon, Gail Giroux and her husband, Robert, and Michael Parks; his grandchildren: Christopher Parks and his wife, Louise, Meghan Parks and her fiancé, Jason Combs, Gregory, Kelsey and Nicole Giroux; and his sister Marion Lawrence. He was the brother of the late Florence Hutchinson, Edgar Parks, Robert Parks and Agnes Hicks.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the wonderful caregivers at the Rhode Island Veteran’s Home.

His funeral was held on Monday, January 6, at 10 a.m. from the Barrett & Cotter Funeral Home, 1328 Warwick Avenue, Spring Green, Warwick, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. William Church, 200 Pettaconsett Avenue, Warwick. Burial with military honors will be in Pawtuxet Memorial Park, Warwick.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to St. William Church Memorial Fund.
