Ethel M. (Colicci) Monahan, 96, of Long Street, died peacefully Monday afternoon, January 25, 2016, at her daughter’s residence on Sturbridge Drive, surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late James P. Monahan, Sr.

Born in Providence, she was one of two daughters of the late William and Mollie (Simonelli) Nani and Ethel was a legal secretary/paralegal for the law firm of Kirshenbaum & Kirshenbaum for fifteen years, and later worked for Colbert’s Detective Agency, which then became Wells Fargo, for many years until her retirement. She balanced her time between her devotion to her husband and best friend of thirty-eight years, James, to her profession, motherhood, and being a talented homemaker. Ethel was a gifted seamstress and an avid reader. She enjoyed solving crossword puzzles, doing jigsaw puzzles with her family, and coloring. Ethel was a faithful communicant of Saint Gregory the Great Church.

She leaves her children, Patricia J. Shanley and her husband, Paul, “her favorite person”, with whom she recently resided, William O. Monahan and his wife, Erin, and James P. Monahan, Jr. and his wife, Kathleen; eight loving grandchildren, Christopher Lawrence and his wife, Kathryn, Sean Lawrence, Evan Shanley and his wife, Meredith, Meaghan Shanley, Ashley Monahan, James Monahan, Laurie Duggan and her husband, Matthew, and Daniel Monahan. She was the sister of the late Evelyn Lavery.

The funeral was held Saturday, January 30th, from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 142 Centerville Road, (Rt117) Warwick. Mass of Christian Burial was held in Saint Gregory the Great Church, 360 Cowesett– 8:00 p.m.
