Father Marciano receives PC National Alumni Award

Posted

Reverend Robert Marciano ’79, pastor of St. Kevin’s Church in Warwick, received the Bishop Harkins Award during Providence College’s Annual Reunion Weekend on May 31. The College’s National Alumni Association presented the award to Fr. Marciano for his outstanding service to the Catholic Church and its mission, at a ceremony recognizing six alumni for their outstanding contributions to the PC community and beyond.

Fr. Marciano also served at St. Kevin’s as associate pastor from 1992–1994 before moving to Saint Rose of Lima Church (later Saints Rose and Clement), where he served for 12 years.

While at PC, he attended Our Lady of Providence Seminary. After graduation, he became chaplain of the Warwick Fire and Police departments, and was chaplain and captain of the Rhode Island Air National Guard, 143rd Airlift Wing. Later, he joined the National Guard Bureau, where he was eventually promoted to colonel – the state’s first chaplain to achieve this rank.

Fr. Marciano served as pastor of Our Lady of Good Help Parish in Mapleville, R.I., and Catholic chaplain at Bryant University. In 2010, Fr. Marciano was appointed Joint Force Headquarters chaplain and Rhode Island National Guard Command chaplain, positions he still holds today.

PC’s National Alumni Association was instituted in 1924, one year after the first graduating class at the College. The Association consists of 36 clubs and chapters across the country, with membership spanning more than seven decades of graduates. They come from diverse backgrounds and hold a wide array of positions within various industries.

The Association plans a variety of programs and opportunities for alumni to network, based on Six Pillars of Engagement: Celebration of our Catholic and Dominican Identity, Community Service, Career Networking, Cultural and Educational, Camaraderie, and Young Alumni and Current Students.

This man is the kindest, most compassionate human being I have ever come across. He treats EVERYONE with dignity looking down on no one. When he speaks you can see his heart. The catholic church should follow his lead as should we all. Congratulation Fr. Marciano.
