The Pilgrim girls’ lacrosse team used a 12-goal first half to roll to an 18-8 victory over Warwick Vets on Thursday afternoon.

The Pats, now 2-0, have scored 30 goals in their first two games.

On Thursday, it was juniors Hannah Page and Sophia DeLuca who paced the offensive attack, netting five goals apiece. DeLuca also assisted on three other goals.

Hannah Johnson added three goals for the Pats and Emily Fluette scored two. Emma Reilly, Paula Cavanagh and Ellen Strain registered one goal apiece. Cavanagh also dished out two assists.

Emma Nason led Vets with four goals, while Karinne Medeiros scored three. Kat Raposo netted the other goal for the ’Canes.

The Pats raced out to a 12-3 lead at halftime with their high-powered offense, putting the game out of reach.

Vets came out in the second half and scored five goals, while holding the Pats to six tallies, but the deficit was insurmountable at that point.

The loss dropped the ’Canes under .500 at 1-2.

Vets will look to even out its record today at East Providence at 4:15 p.m.

Pilgrim has been one of the top teams in the league over the past two seasons, and it looks like it should be a contender once again this season.

The Pats were looking for their third-straight victory on Monday against Scituate, but results were unavailable at press time. They will also host North Providence on Wednesday at 5 p.m.

Pilgrim notches first win in program history

The Pilgrim boys’ lacrosse team made some history on Wednesday, claiming its first victory in program history, 13-6, against East Providence.

It didn’t take long for the Pats, who are playing in their first season in the Rhode Island Interscholastic League, to get their first win, pulling out the victory in just their fourth game after a pair of close losses.

Pilgrim lost its season opener at Vets, 12-11, in double overtime, before dropping a close, 10-8, game at Scituate.

With their first win in the books, the Pats will now look to move forward with a bigger goal in mind of making the playoffs.

Pilgrim will have a good opportunity to get its second win of the season today at Cranston East at Cranston Stadium at 3:30 p.m. The ’Bolts are currently a league-worst 0-4.

’Canes move to 2-2

The Warwick Vets boys’ lacrosse team moved to 2-2 with its second overtime win of the season – a 7-6 victory at Scituate.

Senior captain, Mickenzey Pacheco, ended the game just 35 seconds into the overtime frame – scoring the last of his game-high six goals in the win.

Freshman Tim Chaffee netted the other goal for the ’Canes.

Senior Chris Defreitas was a standout in-between the pipes, as well, stopping 13 of the 19 shots that were sent on net.

The ’Canes will be back in action on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at winless East Providence.
