Components for the first of the Deepwater Wind turbines to be installed off Block Island made their way past Conimicut Point Light early Sunday. One vessel transported the tower for the turbine, while a second (seen here) carried the three giant blades for the turbine plus a section of tower. Legs to the vessel, which are seen in the lift position, drop to the ocean floor for the installation to occur. And yes, the vessels made it under the Newport Bridge. Installation of the five turbines is expected to be completed in about a month with all of them up and spinning by this fall. (Warwick Beacon photo)
