Food lovers invited for a Taste of Pawtuxet

Prepare your taste buds.

The fifth annual Taste of Pawtuxet Village is happening next week, and plenty of area businesses will be there to participate in what is being billed as a “food lover’s event.”

Food and drink will be supplied by local Pawtuxet eateries, including Basta Italian Restaurant, Edgewood Cheese Shop and Eatery, The Elephant Room, Fellini Pizzeria, The Imperial Room, Little Falls Café and Bakery, O’Rourke’s Bar and Grill, Revolution American Bistro, Jacky Boy Public House, Pawtuxet Village Farmer’s Market, Rim Nahm Thai Cuisine, and Sweet Indulgence.

Door prizes can be won from Art & Soul, Bobby Pins, Cork & Brew & Spirits Too, Noon Design, Pawtuxet Sunoco, Tag Sale Treasures, Twice Told Tales, The Veiled Crow, Village Art & Antiques, Wil.O Hair Design, Salon KG, and more.

“We have restaurant owners reach out to us to let us know they want to participate,” said Marta Martinez, who chairs the Friends of Pawtuxet Village. “They seem to enjoy it as much as we do. We get great comments every year.”

“We’re very excited to take part,” said Adrienne D’arconte, an owner at Edgewood Cheese Shop. “It’s a great community event.”

The shop will offer cheese samples at the event, and D’arconte is excited to meet people and talk about the business.

Basta general manager Alex Rosario said he’s preparing to serve patrons a classic caprese salad with ingredients like local heirloom tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, and organic basil. Basta has participated in the event three times.

“It’s a fantastic event that’s really blossomed into something great,” Rosario said.

Another Taste of Pawtuxet Village veteran, O’Rourke’s Bar and Grill, has some delicious items on the menu as well.

“We mix it up every year,” owner Laurie O’Rourke said. “This event is a good way to bring Pawtuxet Village together.”

This year’s sampling will be corned beef sliders and Jameson-infused bread pudding.

The Taste of Pawtuxet Village is hosted by the Friends of Pawtuxet Village, a grassroots volunteer group dedicated to making the village known as a destination to “shop, eat, and enjoy family activities.” The group is composed of residents, businesses and other community members.

“We believe Pawtuxet Village is a wonderful place to live and raise a family,” the group’s website reads. “We support the one-of-a-kind businesses that make up Pawtuxet’s distinctive character and encourage all Rhode Islanders to spend local and embrace the unique identity of our village.”

Warwick Mayor Scott Avedisian plans to attend and said he’s most looking forward to trying the food from the Thai restaurant, Rim Nahm. He said he always goes and loves to see community members consistently raising money for neighborhood projects.

“It’s an active community and it’s really nice that they continue to come together,” he said.

The event will take place on Sept. 27 from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at The Imperial Room in Cranston. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased online via the Friends of Pawtuxet Village, at the door, or at Cork & Brew or Twice Told Tales, both in Cranston.
