The Arthritis Foundation is sponsoring two free public seminars, “Fibromyalgia Update” and “Good Living with Rheumatoid Arthritis.” Both seminars will be held on Saturday, Dec. 1, at the Radisson Airport Hotel, 2081 Post Road, Warwick. Registration starts at 12:30 p.m., and both programs will run from 1 to 3:30 p.m.
“Fibromyalgia Update” is appropriate for anyone with doctor-diagnosed fibromyalgia or who has symptoms. Family members and friends are also encouraged to attend. Patricia Soscia, MD, rheumatologist with Rheumatology Associates, Pawtucket, will offer a medical update on this often frustrating condition. Pradeep Chopra, MD, director of the Pain Management Center, Pawtucket, will discuss methods of managing pain, one of the key symptoms of fibromyalgia. The program will wrap up with an interactive Tai Chi presentation given by Christopher Carlow, D.Ac., of Nature’s Healing, Coventry.
“Good Living with Rheumatoid Arthritis” is intended for anyone who has long-term, doctor-diagnosed rheumatoid arthritis, family members and friends.
Sam Poon, MD, rheumatologist at Roger Williams Medical Center, will share information specific to those who have had RA for over one year or who have tried more than one biologic medication. Maria Kishfy, trained Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program instructor from Atria Lincoln Place and Symmetrics Wellness Movement Center, will provide an interactive demonstration of the Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program. This evidence-based program is appropriate for any type of arthritis and can be geared to all levels of fitness.
Seating is limited for both programs and pre-registration is suggested by calling the Arthritis Foundation at 739-3773.
