Free workshop on dual diagnosis of Alzheimer’s & Down Syndrome

The life expectancy for those individuals with Down syndrome is increasing, and with that also comes some of the conditions that people face as they age, such as Alzheimer’s.

The Alzheimer’s Association, partnered with the Rhode Island Geriatric Education Center, is sponsoring a two-hour free educational workshop for professionals and caretakers understand the changes and individual with Alzheimer’s may experience with memory communication and behavior.

The “Dual Diagnosis Alzheimer’s Disease & Down Syndrome” presentation will discuss strategies caregivers can use to provide care and support wile encouraging autonomy and self esteem during the early, middle and late stages of a diagnosis.

The workshop will be on Friday, November 20 at the Warwick Public Library, 600 Sandy Lane, beginning at 9 a.m.

Although the workshop is free, due to limited space the class is topped at 25 people, pre-registration is required by November 18. For more information or to register call 1-800-272-3900.
