The Write Stuff
Ancient writings were chiseled in stone -
profound statements, standing alone.
No one mentioned writers’ blocks;
rough drafts used too many rocks!
The Egyptians used papyrus
when self-expression was desirous.
Hawthorne labored with ink well and quill
to his creative urge fulfill.
Twain was awed by his typewriter;
computers make the workload lighter.
Though methods change, one thing is sure -
write it well if you would endure.

A Comparison
In my early days I cared
what the neighbors would think
if my skirts were too brief.
There was not much I dared
for I blushed at a wink -
girls who were “fast” came to grief!
Now I’m the one who peers
from the shadows of my window sheers.
Young lovers who live next to me
kiss and quarrel endlessly.
I’d like to tell them, “Don’t mind me;
I’m not thinking critically.”
