(Spectacular astronaut adventure)

No doubt you have heard and read much about this extraordinary movie by now. We’ve come a long way from Buck Rogers and even Star Trek to the most spectacular space movie ever made.

“Gravity” is only an hour and a half long, but every second counts, with many of the sequences shot in “real time” as this nail-biter leaves us breathless. This is one movie you will want to see in 3D, as the effects add to the feeling of weightlessness, with objects and human beings, floating helplessly through space.

Two astronauts are stranded in space with virtually no chance of survival. Sandra Bullock plays Dr. Ryan Stone, outside her ship on a routine space walk with astronaut Matt Kowalski (George Clooney).

The effects and the scenery are spectacular. Ed Harris’s voice gives instruction from Mission Control, while Kowalski cracks jokes and tells stories.

The peaceful scene is interrupted by a warning that a Russian satellite has blown up and the debris is headed their way. The two survivors must get back in the ship, conserve their oxygen and figure out how to get to the nearby space station.

We’ll leave it at that, but will tell you that the movie will literally leave you breathless. While there is a lot of technical stuff going on that seems incredulous, you’ll buy into the possibilities for survival.

There is one twist in the movie that will stun you and leave you puzzled, until you realize what is going on inside Dr. Stone’s head as she deals with panic, loss of oxygen and the thought of dying alone in outer space. Bullock is incredible, expressing her fears and emotions, helplessness and hope. We have never seen a movie quite like this one and highly recommend it. Rated PG-13, with some profanity and many intense scenes.
