Gamache off to hot start at Binghamton, drives in four in win

The bat of Hendricken alum Reed Gamache came to life last Monday, as he drove home four runs in Binghamton’s 13-2 rout of Stony Brook, keyed in large part by the ten-run third inning posted by the Bearcats.

Gamache’s big day at the plate began in the opening frame with a triple that drove home a pair of runs to open the day’s scoring, while later scoring himself courtesy of a sacrifice fly that established a 3-0 Binghamton lead.

The next time the junior second baseman stepped into the batter’s box, he lit the blue touch paper on a series of events that transformed what was a close 3-1 contest into a runaway.

With one out in the third, Gamache reached on a single that plated David Schanz, which re-established the three-run advantage that was previously enjoyed by the Bearcats.

By the time Gamache stepped into the batter’s box for the third time on the afternoon, eight more Binghamton runs had been scored and the Stony Brook starting pitcher had been replaced.

However, the Seawolf reliever experienced the same result as his predecessor, with Gamache chalking up his third hit and fourth RBI of the contest and, unbeknownst to the public-at-large, finishing Binghamton’s scoring for the entirety of the game.

The win was the first in conference play this season for the back-to-back America East champions, who went 3-6 in the first portion of their non-league schedule before being swept by Stony Brook in a doubleheader on Sunday.
