George L. Laurie

George L. Laurie, age 93, formerly of Steele Avenue, Warwick, died on Thursday, June 30, 2016, at Avalon Nursing Home in Warwick. He was the husband of the late Florence C. (Cullen) Laurie.

Born in Providence, a son of the late George and Viola (Ramsey) Laurie, he lived in Warwick since 1954. He was a United States Army veteran of World War II, and a member of the Disabled American Veterans.

Mr. Laurie was employed by the U.S. Postal Service in Providence for 31 years, retiring in 1977. He was a member of St. Benedict Parish in Warwick.

He is survived by three sons and three daughters, Suzanne E. Woodard of Warwick, George L. Laurie of Narragansett, Jeffrey J. Laurie of North Scituate, Barbara F. Tully, Mark R. Laurie, and Rosemary Brennan, all of Warwick; fourteen grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren. He was the father of the late John P. Laurie, and the brother of the late William E. Laurie, Robert G. Laurie, Viola H. Hardy, and Muriel M. Butler.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, July 5, at 11 a.m. in St. Benedict Church, 135 Beach Avenue, Warwick. Burial with military honors will follow in the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. Visiting hours are omitted.
