When Pilgrim girls’ swimming head coach Nisa San Giovanni spoke about freshman swimmer Fortune Premy, she kept coming back to one word: effortless.
“[She] works very hard, makes it look effortless,” San Giovanni said. “She’ll get better as she gets a little stronger. [She’s] so young, she’s only gonna get better.”
Getting better than she already is could be a scary thought for the opposition.
Premy had a solid start to her career as a Patriot, taking home First Team All-Division honors in the 100-meter freestyle and the 400-yard freestyle relay. She also scored the highest at the state championship meet for Pilgrim.
Premy also swims with an outside team to keep improving at her sport, even though San Giovanni sees a great technique already despite Premy’s youth.
“[Her] technique is so good,” San Giovanni said. “It makes her look effortless. [With] how fast she is going, she glides, her strokes are quick, everything just works together so well.”
Premy, along with fellow freshman Mackenzie Fraser, can be the foundation of a Pilgrim team that has the potential to be strong for years to come.
