Grace A. (Johnson) McDowell

Grace A. (Johnson) McDowell, 92, passed away on January 17, 2015. She was the beloved wife of the late Edward A. McDowell.

Born in Warwick, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Mabel (Potter) Johnson. She was a graduate of Cranston High School. After graduation Mrs. McDowell was employed at the Providence Gas Company. She was a civilian employee of the Army Air Corps in Beloxi, Mississippi where he husband was stationed during World War II. Before moving to Narragansett in 1978, Mrs. McDowell resided in Warwick where she was a communicant of St. Timothy’s Church and a founding member of the Warren A. Sherman School PTA. Until her retirement she was the office manager of Crawford and Company in Warwick.

She is survived by her children John (Bernadette) McDowell of Warwick, Janis McDowell of Cranston, Nancy (Andrew) Ougheltree of Little Compton and Wayne McDowell of Narragansett; her sisters Muriel Peabody of Charleston and Janet (Robert) Goodwin of Lake George, New York; and seven grandchildren; Amanda Carlson, Jason and Jonathan McDowell, Farrell, Olivia, Isabelle and Arkasha Ougheltree. She was the sister of the late Roger Johnson.

Services will be held on Friday, January 23 at 10 a.m., from the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield, RI. A Mass at St. Mary’s Star of the Sea at 11a.m., Narragansett.
