Grant, Pats to host breast cancer awareness game

Darren Grant, a senior captain on the Pilgrim football team, is conducting his senior project this year on breast cancer awareness. In correlation to his project, Grant and the Pats will be hosting a breast cancer awareness game when the team plays Classical this Friday at 7 p.m.

Grant is encouraging anyone who is fighting, has beaten or lost someone to breast cancer to come out to Pilgrim for the game to light a pink lantern for all those who have passed. All who attend for the cause will also have the opportunity to run through the pregame banner and storm the field.

Grant bought several shirts to be sold at the event with a pink Pilgrim football logo on the back and a pink ribbon on the front.

The current plan is for Grant to present a check that will include all of the money raised to the Gloria Gemma Foundation at Pilgrim’s last home game in October.

“It’s for the community and for anyone who wants to be recognized and come through,” Grant said. “It’s important to me because I like to give back. The money raised from the t-shirts will all go to the Gloria Gemma Foundation for research.”

Grant came up with the idea of conducting this as a senior project because he noted that he knows several people that have had breast cancer. After coming up with the idea, he knew that it would be a perfect opportunity for those impacted by the disease in the community to come together.

“I know a lot of people with breast cancer, so I thought that this would be a perfect opportunity to go out and show my support for them,” Grant said. “Anyone from even Vets or Toll Gate can come through for the game. Whoever wants to come is welcome.”
