Great outdoors: JCCA hosting Friday concert with Jimmy Mazz, Saturday movie at War Memorial Park

He has electrified audiences from coast to coast in some of the nation’s most famous venues with his unique music, comedy, and impressions of icons from the 1950s and beyond.

He has made periodic appearances at the Golden Nugget in Las Vegas and recently signed a contract to headline the Superstar Theater at Resorts International in Atlantic City for the month of September.

He is Jimmy Mazz, who because of the overwhelming popularity of two previous visits will be back in town tomorrow night, July 29, beginning at 6:30 p.m. to help the Johnston Community Center Association (JCCA) launch its third Summer Concert Series inside Johnston War Memorial Park.

“I am really looking forward to performing back in Johnston,” said Mazz, whose real name is Jimmy Mazzaferro. “The people there are special. I plan to perform a wide variety of songs from the ’50s through today with a focus on some very cool one-hit wonders. I’ve always been fascinated by some of those great songs … In addition, I will have a very special surprise guest singer who is up and coming and just happens to be from Johnston.”

“We are proud to welcome back Jimmy Mazz to open our 2016 Concerts in the Park series,” JCCA president Glenn Carroll said. “This is the third year he will be performing, and it seems as though everyone I talk to in town is excited about Jimmy’s return.”

Tomorrow night’s show will launch one of the most ambitious weekends in the JCCA’s history.

“We are excited about having back-to-back presentations for the first time ever,” Carroll said. “Friday night we’ve got the great Jimmy Mazz, and Saturday night it’s the second Movies in the Park featuring ‘Transylvania’ starting at 8 o’clock. The JCCA enjoys giving back to the community by providing these types of free events.”

Carroll said the JCCA’s first Movies in the Park event was well attended, and the non-profit will offer free popcorn and bottled water during Saturday night’s movie.

“We are hoping to have record crowds Friday and Saturday night,” Carroll said. “Bring your blankets and lawn chairs and enjoy five-star entertainment by Jimmy Mazz and another great movie, all under the stars in our great park.”

The JCCA will also offer free Concerts in the Park on July 29 featuring the Jesse Liam four-piece band, and on Aug. 21 with the music of Joshua David. The Movies in the Park will also be show, on Saturday, Aug. 13, and Aug. 27, starting at 8 p.m.
