Tierra Frey was the best in the city, and it showed in her results at the state meet.
Junior Frey finished 22nd overall, the highest of any athlete in Warwick. Her ability to perform and lead were recognized all season by her head coach, Stacy Capone.
“Tierra was outstanding,” Capone said. “She attended every practice, she led warmups, she was able to jump in that leadership role in her last year and I believe she’s going to Pilgrim for her senior year.”
Frey will continue to excel at her craft at Pilgrim, with some of her teammates joining her on the mat there.
“I hope that she stays with high school gymnastics,” Capone said. “It’s a hard transition because they’re being split up after all these years. They’ll obviously maintain their friendship, but they’re now competing against each other.”
That added competition can only help Frey get better. She was already viewed as a strong leader during her junior year, and that will translate well into her final season of eligibility.
“She did do a good job [as a leader],” Capone said. “If they needed help on any particular event they would ask ‘How does this look, Tierra?’ and the other kids on the team listened.”
