Harvey E. Zimmerman of Warwick, R.I., beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away early Wednesday after a brief illness. He was 74.

Mr. Zimmerman, born in Detroit, grew up on a dairy farm in Russell County, Kentucky. He received a bachelor’s degree in Economics from Western Kentucky University, a master's degree in Economics from the University of Kentucky, and master's degree in Economics from Brown University. He was also a PhD candidate in Economics at Brown.

A renowned health economist in the area, Mr. Zimmerman owned his own firm, Spectrum Research, since 1987. Mr. Zimmerman was firmly entrenched in the local Warwick community. He moved to the city in 1969, was a long-time board member at the Warwick Museum of Art, an avid sailor and major Celtics fan. Exceptionally well-read, Mr. Zimmerman was also a skilled baker who specialized in desserts, loved animals and gardening, and was a patient grandfather who was always in demand for his reading skills.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Carol Cook Zimmerman; his daughters Kimberly Zimmerman Rand (Douglas) and Kristen Zimmerman Kamp (Jonathan); his grandchildren Joshua, Noah and Elizabeth; and his sisters Sena Zimmerman Sword (John), Dianne Zimmerman Van Ness (Howard); and Sharon Zimmerman Poulos (Alexander).

The funeral will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in the Urquhart-Murphy Funeral Home, 800 Greenwich Avenue, Route 5, Warwick (Exit 12A on I-95). Burial will follow in Pawtuxet Memorial Park, Warwick. Relatives and friends are invited. Calling hours will be held on Friday from 4-6 p.m.
