Hawks alums getting it done

Hendricken alum Kenny Charron has acquired a case of double vision—a good case of double vision, that is.

Charron, who has since moved on to Regis College, scored a pair of goals midway through the first half in the Pride’s 2-0 triumph over Becker on Saturday, returning the team to the win column after its 2-1 setback against Daniel Webster on October 10.

Charron received further recognition from the New England Collegiate Conference by being named its rookie of the week for the second time this season.

The first time Charron was so honored was in September, on the heels of a five-point (two goals, one assist) performance against Fisher in which Regis scored early, late and often on its way to a 13-0 thrashing of the Falcons.

Another former Hawk that has spread his wings in order to play at the collegiate level is Torrey Stricklin, who now suits up for Gordon College.

The freshman midfielder/defender has seen action in ten of the 14 matches that the Fighting Scots have played, while notching a single goal to his name.

Stricklin found the back of the net just after the hour mark in an October 6 match against Wentworth, a contest that the Fighting Scots won by a 3-0 score.

Matt Racca is quickly approaching the end of his senior season at Wentworth Institute of Technology, and time is running out on his quest to open his goal-scoring account for the 2012 season.

The Hendricken graduate leads the Leopards in shots with 26, but has yet to find the back of the net, a task that his teammates have also had great difficulty in completing this season.

In 13 matches, Wentworth has only scored six goals, four of them coming in its only win of the campaign to date, which came on September 15 against Eastern Nazarene.

Racca contributed a pair of assists in the victory over the Lions, which is good for a tie atop the team’s leaderboard.

Three matches remain for Racca to break through, with the first opportunity coming Wednesday on the road against the University of New England, before he wraps up his collegiate career on home turf against Nichols and Endicott.
