The Hendricken Hawks beat Warwick Vets, 6-0, to win the Warwick City Cup Thursday night at Warwick Vets.

The tournament included Toll Gate, Hendricken, Warwick Vets and Pilgrim fighting for a trophy. It was the first games of the year for the four squads. All the proceeds went towards an injury fund.

Warwick and Pilgrim would lead off the tournament with a defensive battle, ending regulation tied at 0. The winner would be determined in a penalty shoot-out. Warwick captains Josiah Enos, Jacob Clark and Cameron Skuce would all score during the shoot-out to give Warwick a 1-0 win. The win put it in the championship game against the winner of Toll Gate and Hendricken. Pilgrim had a lone score in the shootout by its goalie and senior captain Liam Strain.

Hendricken and Toll Gate would play next. The teams remained scoreless at the end of regulation. Then, all three Hendricken penalty kickers, Andrew Pimental, Lucas Gesmundo and Christian Kirby scored in the penalty shoot-out. Toll Gate came up short with only forward Connor Haley and midfielder Quincy Lawson, Jr. scoring, allowing Hendricken to win, 1-0.

Toll Gate and Pilgrim would follow by playing a game for third place. This game would also end regulation without a goal from either team. In the penalty shoot-out, Pilgrim’s Dominic DeNuccio and Strain would both score penalty kicks to give Pilgrim a third-place finish. Toll Gate failed to score a goal in the shoot-out.

Then came the championship matchup between Hendricken and Warwick. Gesmundo would continue to play well for Hendricken. He would score two goals within thirty seconds to put his team up early, 2-0. Hendricken wasn’t done there. Ewan Noble, Matthew DeFreitas, Anthony Lazzareschi and Nick Williams would all add to Hendricken’s lead, and it would go on to win, 6-0, and claim the trophy as the Warwick City Cup tournament champion.
