Since suffering its only loss of the season on April 22 at Lincoln, the defending state champion Bishop Hendricken baseball team has gotten back to its winning ways.
The Hawks (8-1) secured their third consecutive win with a 5-1 victory over Pilgrim on the road Monday afternoon. Starting pitcher Joe Maynard went five innings to pick up the victory for Hendricken.
Freshman Tucker Flint smashed a two-RBI double to break a 1-1 tie in the fourth inning, putting Hendricken ahead for good. Matt Sweeney added a pair of RBIs while Elijah Brown hit successfully in all three at-bats on the day.
Marc Andrews pitched two shutout innings in relief to prevent a Pilgrim (5-5) comeback.
Hendricken was scheduled to duel with Cranston West (7-2) Wednesday afternoon at home. The Pats, meanwhile, began a four-game road trip at Cranston East (2-7) on Wednesday. Both results were unavailable at press time.
After facing the ’Bolts, Pilgrim will tangle with D-I heavyweights Coventry, Lincoln and Hendricken.
