Hawks go 3-0-1 during key stretch

A stretch of four games in five days beginning last Wednesday would go a long way in determining where Bishop Hendricken would end up in the final Division I hockey standings. When the stretch finished up on Sunday, the Hawks were right where they wanted to be.

With three victories – including one over Mount St. Charles – and a tie against La Salle, the Hawks moved into first place by the power points formula, just ahead of Mount. Hendricken has 18.2 power points, while the Mounties have 18.

The busy stretch started with a 4-1 victory over Mount last Wednesday, which moved the Hawks to 2-0 against the Mounties this season. Josh Olson scored a pair of goals, with Jamie Armstrong and Jonathan Finelli tallying the others.

The Hawks got goals from Reilly Miller and Patrick Creamer in a 2-2 tie with La Salle on Friday. On Saturday, the Hawks held off a late charge to beat Smithfield 4-3, which avenged their only in-state loss of the year. Armstrong, Creamer, Steven Dumond and Andrew Fera lit the lamp for the Hawks and Matt Kenneally made 13 saves. On Sunday, Hendricken cruised past Coventry 4-1, with goals by Armstrong, Fera, Eric Edwards and Kiel Fuller. Christian Maselli made eight saves in net.

The Hawks (12-2-1) have two regular-season games remaining. They’ll play Burrillville on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Levy Rink before closing out the season Saturday with another match-up against Mount St. Charles, which is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Thayer Arena. Below, Matt Kim passes the puck across the ice during Saturday’s 4-3 victory over Smithfield.
