Bishop Hendricken High School will add five graduates to its Athletic Hall of Fame at an on-campus induction ceremony Sunday, Oct. 5, Hendricken President John A. Jackson, ‘71, has announced.

Tickets to the induction ceremony are available for $40 per person and can be purchased by calling Bishop Hendricken Director of Alumni Relations Michele King at (401) 738-6971, ext. 131. The ceremony begins at 10 a.m. with mass in Harrop Theater, and an awards presentation and reception will follow.

Below are brief biographies of the Bishop Hendricken Athletic Hall of Fame inductees:

Kevin Brewster, ‘86, was one of the most talented and celebrated runners in Bishop Hendricken athletic history. An All-American in cross country and track and field, Brewster earned All-State honors nine times and won six state track championships. When he graduated, he held 12 school records and two state records. He also helped lead the 1985 Hawks cross country team to state, New England, and Eastern States championships, as well as a place among the nation’s Top 20 squads. A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, Kevin is an educator and summer camp director in Portland, Maine, where he lives with wife and two children.

Matthew Giardina, ‘76, ranks as one of the most versatile athletes in Bishop Hendricken history. As a senior, he earned All-State honors in football and captured state and New England championships in wrestling. His year culminated with him being voted Hendricken’s “Man of the Year” by his classmates and the faculty. A graduate of Roger Williams University, Giardina joined the Rhode Island State Police and rose to the rank of Lieutenant before retiring in 2004. Since, he has brought his expertise and experience to the trucking industry. Giardina has two children.

Edward McEntee, ‘62, was one of Bishop Hendricken’s first standout athletes. McEntee played several positions on the first Hawks’ football teams, earned All-State and All-New England honors as a wrestler, and was selected All-Class as a hammer thrower. McEntee was voted the first Hendricken “Man of the Year” by his classmates and the faculty. With degrees from Brown University, Boston University and Suffolk University, McEntee spent 35 years as a Professor of Psychology at the Community College of Rhode Island.

Ronald Mosca, ‘73, won six Super Bowl championships in his 17 seasons as Hendricken’s head varsity coach, spanning 1990-2006. His Hawks made a Rhode Island Interscholastic League record six consecutive Super Bowl appearances, spanning 1994-1999. He has coached dozens of elite players, most notably eventual Boston College star and NFL Super Bowl champion Will Blackmon, ‘02. Mosca’s time with the football program stretches to 1978, when upon joining the Hendricken faculty he was hired as an assistant football coach. He also has worked on the baseball, sailing and tennis coaching staffs at Hendricken. Mosca retired from coaching in 2007 but still serves the school as its Director of Technology. He and his wife, Linda, have two sons, Anthony and Andrew, ‘07.

Robert Reitz, ‘79, was the top player on the Hawks 1978-79 basketball squad that went 28-0 and won state, New England Catholic, and New England Invitational Tournament titles. He was a two-time, first-team All-Stater in basketball and matriculated to Stonehill College, where his success continued. A two-time Division II All-American, Reitz’s 2,218 points place him second on Stonehill’s career scoring list. The Boston Celtics selected Reitz in the fifth round of the 1983 NBA Draft, and he enjoyed a professional career in Ireland and England. Later, Reitz was inducted into Stonehill College and Northeast 10 Conference Halls of Fame. A 15-year employee with Bank of America, Reitz lives in Providence and has two daughters.
