Helen I. Hewins, 97, a lifelong resident of Warwick, died Tuesday, May 20, 2014. She was the wife of the late Francis J. Hewins.

She was the daughter of the late Charles and Inez (Reibi) Selby. Mrs. Hewins was employed with the former New England Tel & Tel for 37 years, retiring as an executive secretary in 1974. She was active at the Woodbury Union Presbyterian Church and sang in the choir and was a member of the Asbury Coasters. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and during World War II served with the USO.

She leaves her son, William F. Hewins and his wife, Terry, of Los Altos, California and her daughter, Constance A Harris and her husband, Wright, of West Warwick. She leaves four grandchildren Sy Harris, Brooke Harris and her husband, Jurgen Altzeibler, Franklin Hewins and Jessica Hewins; two great-grandchildren, Maxwell Harris and Eden Harris; and her sister, Shirley V. Leighton of Martha’s Vineyard and is predeceased by her siblings, Charles “Bud” Selby, Dorothy King and Muriel Martland.

Her funeral will be held Tuesday, May 28, at 9 a.m. from the Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Home, 2435 Warwick Ave. with a service at 10 a.m. in the Woodbury Union Presbyterian Church, Beach Ave. at West Shore Rd. Interment will be private. Visiting hours Monday 4-7 p.m.
