On Saturday, Aug. 9, Traditional Martial Arts RI, located at 1099 Park Ave., hosted a fundraiser to benefit the Colon family. The family has two children, Brando and Isaac, who are students at Traditional Martial Arts, and they lost their house to a devastating house fire on June 10. Students at the dojo were encouraged to sell breaking boards as part of the fundraising endeavor, and a total of 166 boards were sold and broken. In addition, Alan Shawn Feinstein generously donated the services of Sue the Face Painter for the duration of the event, and the Great Baldini performed a fantastic magic show to entertain the children. The demo team performed a 10-minute demonstration showcasing the skills and expertise of the students at the dojo, and lastly, raffle tickets were sold to raise even more money. Raffle prizes were generously donated by local area businesses and included a dinner for two voucher to the Texas Roadhouse Cranston courtesy of General Manager Rich Montalvo, a pack of four flex tickets for the Providence Bruins courtesy of the Providence Bruins, an art basket courtesy of Sue the Face Painter, and various Avon products. This event was able to raise a total of $700 for the Colon family. Donations of clothing for the family, as well as monetary funds, can still be made at the dojo. There is also a GoFundMe account at gofundme.com/wsjhcs. (Photos courtesy of CJ Meehan)
