National Grid hosted a Community Assistance Expo March 24 at the Rhode Island Salvation Army headquarters in Providence to meet with customers in need of assistance with their energy bills. The program connected Rhode Islanders with nearly one dozen statewide organizations that provide a wide array of financial assistance options. National Grid reached out to customers in the greater Providence area who have fallen behind on their energy bills to inform them of the expo. More than 360 people attended to meet with social service experts and consumer advocates, from the utility company to affordable housing representatives, under one roof. National Grid presented donations of $25,000 to the Rhode Island Good Neighbor Energy Fund, which helps people who may not qualify for federal or state assistance in paying their energy bills, but are in financial crisis, and to the Rhode Island Community Food Bank to increase food supplies available to those having difficulty making financial ends meet. Pictured at the event are Salvation Army Major Wendy Kountz, Michael F. Ryan (C), Director of Government Relations for National Grid in RI and RI Community Food Bank Director Andrew Schiff.
