Hendricken hoops hosting steak fry fundraiser for Florida trip

The Bishop Hendricken basketball program is hosting a steak fry in September to raise funds for a trip to Florida this upcoming season.

The defending state champion Hawks are planning to take part in the Walt Disney Classic in Orlando, Fla., in December, a tournament that will include top teams from around the country. All proceeds from the steak fry will benefit the team as it tries to make the trip.

The steak fry will be held Saturday, Sept. 20 from 1 to 5 p.m., at Bishop Hendricken. Tickets are $25 per person. Anyone interested in purchasing tickets can contact head coach Jamal Gomes at jgomes@hendricken.com or can call the Bishop Hendricken main office at 401-739-3450 and ask for Gomes.

Coventry hosting soccer event

Coventry, R.I. will host the Kohl’s US Youth Soccer American Cup, the largest recreational youth soccer tournament in the United States, at Fish Hill Sports Complex on August 30-31. The Under-8 through Under-15 boys and girls participating will bring together 75 teams for the annual Kohl’s American Cup held in Rhode Island.

The Kohl’s American Cup offers youth soccer players an opportunity to play in a high-quality tournament in a fun, family-like atmosphere. The program was started in 2000 as an avenue to highlight recreational soccer players and promote fair play. Players receive equal opportunities and benefits within their level of play, with an emphasis on participation, rather than competition.

The Kohl’s American Cup Kid Zone will add even more excitement to the Coventry Kohl’s American Cup. The Kid Zone comes complete with four brand new larger-than-life soccer inflatables and games and also includes numerous prizes and souvenirs for participants and their families.

This event is one of 45 Kohl’s American Cup tournaments being held from March to December. All tournaments are open to players registered with a US Youth Soccer State Association recreational league.
