The Rhode Island Council on Alcoholism and Other Drug Dependence (RICAODD) recently recognized Rep. Patricia A. Serpa (D-Dist. 27, West Warwick, Coventry, Warwick) at the Phoenix House’s 44th annual Community Service Awards Luncheon for her work to aid and protect those suffering from addiction. Serpa was presented the James H. Ottmar Award, which recognizes a respected community or business leader who is not afraid to serve as a voice for those who are unable to be heard due to alcoholism or drug addiction. RICAODD has been instrumental in assisting the most vulnerable members of the community through its Referral Helpline and Recovery Housing Program. The goal of the program is to give those with substance abuse problems the referrals and resources they need to seek treatment and provide safe, supportive and affordable housing. The Phoenix House is one of the region’s premier non-profit substance abuse treatment agencies. It serves more than 3,500 individuals each year through 45 programs and facilities throughout New England. Here, Serpa accepts the award at the Phoenix House 44th annual Community Service Awards Luncheon, hosted by WJAR-10’s Dan Jaehnig.
