Elite Entertainment and Parachute Concerts announce “I Love the ’90s Tour” at the Providence Performing Arts Center (PPAC) Friday, December 30, at 8 p.m.

It’s the ultimate throwback concert event, starring Salt-N-Pepa featuring DJ Spinderella, Vanilla Ice, Kid ‘N Play, Color Me Badd, Rob Base and Young MC.

Due to overwhelming fan demand, the I Love The 90’s Tour has taken the show on the road to over 55 different cities in 2016. Get ready to relive the era that inspired today’s music and fashion, featuring some of the ’90s most popular hip-hop and R&B icons, all on one stage for a fun-filled night out that doubles as a massive dance party. Audiences can expect to hear their favorite chart-topping hits like “Let’s Talk About Sex,” “Shoop,” “Ice, Ice Baby,” “I Wanna Sex You Up,” “It Takes Two,” “Bust a Move” and more.

“We couldn’t be more excited to bring ‘I Love the ’90s’ to Providence on December 30. This will be the ultimate throwback concert event, making for the perfect kickoff to NYE weekend. Providence will be extra special as fans will be able to experience this show up close in an intimate setting; PPAC is one of the only non-arena dates on the entire tour,” says Ross Atamian, Parachute Concerts.

As one of the first successful all-female rap groups, Salt-N-Pepa had a long string of hits, including “Push It,” “Let’s Talk About Sex,” “Shoop,” “Whatta Man” and “None of Your Business.” The trio won the Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group in 1995 for “None of Your Business,” making them the first female rap Grammy winners. In addition, they have won several MTV Music Video Awards.

Vanilla Ice released “To the Extreme” in 1990 and the album spent 16 weeks at the top of the Billboard 200 and sold 15 million copies worldwide. The single “Ice Ice Baby” was the first Hip-Hop single to top the Billboard charts. The album also included the hit single, “Play That Funky Music.” In 1991, he won American Music Awards for Favorite Pop/Rock New Artist and Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop New Artist.

Kid ‘N Play recorded three albums together between 1988 and 1991: 2 Hype (1988), Kid ‘n Play’s Funhouse (1990), and Face the Nation (1991). Among the group’s most successful singles were 1989’s “Rollin’ with Kid ‘n Play” (#11 on the Billboard R&B singles chart), 1990s “Funhouse” (#1 on the Billboard rap singles chart), and “Ain’t Gonna Hurt Nobody” (another #1 rap hit). They have also had acclaimed success on the silver screen, starring together in four feature films.

Color Me Badd had five U.S. hit singles from their debut album C.M.B. throughout 1991 and 1992. These were “I Wanna Sex You Up” (U.S. #2), “I Adore Mi Amor” (U.S. #1), “All 4 Love” (U.S. #1), “Thinkin’ Back” (U.S. #16) and “Slow Motion” (U.S. #18). Their debut album, C.M.B., was released in September 1991. It sold over 6 million copies worldwide and became certified 3x platinum in the US.

Rob Base & DJ EZ Rock’s debut album “It Takes Two” spawned two international hits, “It Takes Two” and “Joy and Pain.” Today in 2016, both songs have stood the test of time and are still widely played by fans and partygoers alike. In 2008, “It Takes Two” was ranked number 37 on VH1’s all-time 100 greatest songs of Hip-Hop.

Young MC released his debut album ‘Stone Cold Rhymin’ in 1989, spawning the universally popular hit single “Bust a Move.” Young MC is also known for his collaborations with Tone Loc on the songs “Wild Thing” and “Funky Cold Medina.”
