Hospital, police, fire to partner in active threat exercise tomorrow

Posted

Kent Hospital, in conjunction with the Warwick Police Department and Warwick Fire Department/EMS, will conduct a full-scale exercise tomorrow from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the hospital. The purpose of this exercise is to measure first responder and hospital staffs’ capacity to respond to an active threat event on the hospital campus. This provides opportunity for training, preparedness, evaluation and communications for all partners involved.

There is potential for a visible and sizable police and fire presence outside the hospital all morning. The exercise will be contained to the Kent Hospital campus and not impact nearby businesses, residences, roadways or access to the hospital campus. There will be signage throughout the campus and a digital signage board on Toll Gate Road to advise passersby. Additionally, information will be posted to the hospital web homepage, www.Kentri.org and Kent’s social media channels at Facebook.com/Kenthospital or on Twitter @Kenthospital. Warwick Police will also share information through its social media www.warwickpd.org and www.facebook.com/warwick-police-department.

“Sadly, incidents of workplace violence are on the rise and all too real. We repeatedly hear about tragic events in areas of commerce, at schools and hospitals here and abroad,” said Michael Dacey Jr., president and COO of Kent Hospital. “It’s easy to think this could never happen here and, certainly, we all hope this never will, but it’s imperative to be as prepared as possible.”

Colonel Stephen McCartney, Chief of Police, said in a statement, “I am extremely enthusiastic about the Warwick Police Department participating in an exercise of this magnitude with Kent Hospital and other exercise partners. These opportunities only come about as a result of the dedication and hard work done by the exercise planners who have committed themselves to making sure that we are all prepared for those contingencies that make today’s world a very challenging environment.”

Thanks for the heads up. Now we know when to start the crime spree.

Justanidiot, It'll be like shift change time for the PD- you could speed in reverse, drunk, through a school zone, naked, firing a gun out the window, with your vehicle on fire between 3 and 4 PM and not get pulled over.

RISchadenfreude, I do that every other day. There is only so much loot one person can carry.
