Hoxsie School talent, enthusiasm on stage

The Hoxsie School all-purpose room was packed and the excitement was palatable as fifth- and sixth-graders staged a talent show Friday night for fellow students, faculty and family.

This was the school’s seventh annual show and, as has been past practice, funds raised will benefit the sixth grade field day and yearbook. The money will also help pay for T-shirts and a video, said teacher Meredith Andreozzi, who, with PTO President Pam Sayles, was among the faculty and parents who organized the event.

Unlike past shows, admission was free this year. Funds were raised by the sale of baked goods and other refreshments during intermission, a 50/50 raffle and raffle baskets. Andreozzi estimated more than $500 was raised.

“A lot of people get together to help out,” she said of the show.

The students, whether performing individually or in skits as a group, were geared up for the show. Family and friends recorded performances on their cameras and cell phones and, not surprisingly, the students gravitated to the limelight.
