Hurry up and wait?

To the Editor:

Demolition of the bridge on Tidewater Dr. is being held up by the utilities companies. Why wasn’t this taken care of before they closed the road? No wonder this project is going to take nine months.

During the depression in the 1930s they had a construction crew called W.P.A. (Work Progress Administration) that was the butt of every comedian’s jokes, that they even wrote a song about, recorded by Jan Savitt. Roosevelt had it banned on the airways. Their motto was hurry up and wait. This project reminds me of those good old days.

As long as the biggest part of Tidewater Dr. is going to be closed for nine months, why doesn’t the Warwick Sewer Authority install the sewers, or would they rather wait until they finish the bridge then close down the road again?
