(Poignant teen love story)

This poignant teen love story is aimed right at junior high/high school age girls and the dates they may drag with them in exchange for seeing "Sin City.” While not our cup of tea, we must admit that it is well made and very well acted.

Chloe Grace Moretz stars as Mia, a high school cellist prodigy who falls in love with Adam (Jamie Blackley), a rocker in an up-and-coming band. Opposites attract and also cause conflicts as the two try to adjust to each other's schedules and friends.

If you are familiar with the book or have seen the trailers, you know that Mia is involved in a horrendous car crash and is fighting for her life in the hospital.

The story is told in flashbacks through Mia's eyes, as she watches over her still body, connected to all types of tubes and machines. The flashbacks take the shy Mia, daughter of former hippies, through her relationship with the more outgoing Adam and the conflicts that arise when his band becomes more popular and he goes on the road, while she auditions for Julliard, knowing that acceptance means moving from West Coast to East Coast.

The movie has good messages about acceptance, making choices and sacrifices and dealing with adversity. It also suggests some bad messages about teenage sex and drinking, which earns it a PG-13 rating. Bring a handkerchief.
