Janet E. Buckley-Smith, age 74, of Tiverton, passed away unexpectedly on November 1, 2012. She was the wife of Edward D. Smith to whom she had been married for 29 years.
Born in Fall River, the daughter of the late Edmund and Ruth (Greenwood) Buckley, Mrs. Smith was a 1956 graduate of BMC Durfee High School and received her Bachelor’s Degree from Harvard University in 1960. Mrs. Smith was employed as an immigration Paralegal with Catholic Social Services in Fall River. Previously she was a language teacher in the Warwick School Department. She taught English, German, Russian, and French. She was an accomplished cellist and violinist who played with the Fall River Symphony Orchestra since she was in Jr. High and was also a longtime member of the Warwick Symphony Orchestra. Mrs. Smith was a warden at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church where she organized the youth group and played her violin during services. She loved traveling overseas. She was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and was a season ticket holder for over 40 years. She was also a fan of the Pawtucket Red Sox.
Surviving, in addition to her husband, is a sister Deborah A. Brillo and her husband, Michael of Assonet and a brother Robert G. Buckley and his wife, Corrine of Massachusetts; brother in law, James L. Young of Vermont; and several nieces and nephews. She was sister of the late Meredyth J. Young.
Her Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 8, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. in St. Luke’s Episcopal Church 315 Warren St., Fall River. Arrangements are in the care of the Waring-Sullivan Homes Of Memorial Tribute At Cherry Place.
