Jazz camp for adults pitches tent at Crowne Plaza

For one week this summer those who have dreamed of becoming a musical performing star will have the opportunity at Jazz Camp, a “camp for grownups”.

Jazz Camp, based out of Vermont, hosts its camp in a different location every year, and for its 32nd year, the week-long camp will be hosted at the Crowne Plaza in Warwick from August 7 to 12.

Although the camp is nearly full there are still spots open for trombone, trumpet, saxophone, and guitar in one of the camps’ six “big bands.” There are also “first timer” discounts.

Jazz Camp invites adults from all walks of life to come together over one week to join big bands directed by professional musicians to live like a jazz star, practicing all week participating in various workshops, to put on a big show at the end of the week. Seventy percent of Jazz Camp participants return year to year.

This year Jerry Bergonzi, a world renowned tenor saxophonist, specializing in improv, will be the guest artist, hosting workshops throughout the week on improvisational jazz.

Participants must be able to read music and play their specific instrument at an intermediate level.

Jazz Camp begins on Aug. 7 with registration, then carries throughout the week with jam sessions, rehearsals, meals, mingling opportunities, workshops, parties and culminating in a final live and public performance.

“It’s not just the music. It’s not just the beautiful setting. This is an opportunity to live the dream they might have had about playing in a band every day, jamming every day, it’s the way they can, for at least five days maybe, have the life that they wanted but they don’t have now,” Byron Siegal, Jazz Camp Program Director, told the NBC Today Show.

Registration costs begin at $1,099 up to $1,779, with commuter and stay options as well as the possibility for a “first timer” discount.

For more information or to register visit www.jazzcamp.com, call their toll free 800 number, 1-800-242-8785 or email jazzvermont@comcast.net.
