A dozen bands performed at Mardi Gras Multi Club at 1500 Oaklawn Avenue on Sunday night for the 12 Bands of Christmas, a rockin’ charity event in support of Toys for Tots, a non-profit organization created by the United States Marine Corps that gives toys to children in need. According to Staff Sergeant Jose Avila, who attended the show, they collected more than 74,000 toys last year. Eric Tier, owner of Tier Enterprise DJ Service and Black Wiing Productions, spearheaded the event and donated a Dean Flying V guitar available for auction. It bears the signatures of more than 60 popular rock musicians including Geoff Tate of Queensryche; Josh Todd of Buckcherry; Lajon Witherspoon of Sevendust; Vinnie Paul of Hellyeah, who formerly played drums for the metal group Pantera, as well as members of Godsmack, among others. The final bid will take place on Dec. 18 at midnight at the Rock Junction at 731 Centre of New England Boulevard in Coventry. For more information, contact Tier via erictier/facebook or blackwiingproductions/facebook. Tier rocks out with LCPL Edward Smith (left) as well as LCPL Benjamin Shearer and LCPL Celestino Rivera.
