Joan T. Cote

Joan T. Cote 81, of Acushnet, MA, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 28, 2016 at the Hathaway Manor in New Bedford, MA. She was the beloved wife of August R. Cote, Sr.

Born in Fall River, MA, she was the daughter of the late Francis Boscoe and Anna (Wargat) Boscoe. Joan was a graduate of B.C.C. in Fall River with Associate degree in Social Studies. Then she attended U-Mass Dartmouth and received a degree in Humanities and Social Science with a minor in Gerontology. Joan also got her Certificate in Thanatology from B.C.C. and a Certificate in Gerontology at U-Mass. Joan became a volunteer of the Hospice program and remained in that program for 35 years. She was a Rape Crisis counselor and volunteered for 10 years. Joan also worked at New Bedford Child and Family as a case manager in the Big Brother/Big Sister program. After retiring, Joan remained a Hospice volunteer, enjoyed painting, all sports, knitting, her dog Cody, and was an animal lover as well. She had a thirst for knowledge and attended numerous seminars, etc., to the very end. Joan loved making trips to Cape Cod Canal, Newport, and attending plays at Newport Play House.

She was the devoted mother of her children: Kenneth M. Hayes and his wife, Sue of Acushnet, MA; August R. Cote, Jr. and his wife, Linda of Richmond, RI; Kenneth A. Cote of Warwick, RI; Joanne Felaccio and her husband, Steven of Acushnet, MA; Donna Renzi and her husband, Mark of Johnston, RI; and the late Debra Pauline. Joan was predeceased by her brother James Boscoe and is survived by her sisters Frances Chadwick and her husband, Raymond of Swansea, MA, and Anna Albernaz of Somerset, MA. Joan was also the proud grandmother of 17 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her gathering to be held on Friday, August 5, 2016 from 4 pm to 8 pm at South Coast Chapel Mortuary, 158 Middleboro Rd, (Rt.18) East Freetown, MA, 02717. Internment will be private.
