Johnston High’s football Panthers will help honor all veterans during tomorrow night’s Rhode Island Interscholastic League non-division game against visiting Cranston West.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Mayor Joseph M. Polisena Stadium and the game will serve as a “Salute to Service” according to Keith Cory, Johnston High’s athletic director, who earlier this week announced that the Panthers will be dressed in camouflage uniforms.
Rhode Island National Guard is providing camo uniforms for participating schools.
While Veterans Day is an official holiday in the country, the Rhode Island Interscholastic League – in conjunction with the Rhode Island National Guard – has again teamed up to honor all people who have served in the United States Armed Forces.
Tracy Quarella, the RIIL’s marketing director, announced that a total of 14 teams will be taking part in the “Salute to Service” by wearing camo uniforms.
Cory said there will be a brief ceremony before the game to honor veterans and their families.
